Can you name a Black, classical musician? What about an urban farmer?
We created The Rooted Curriculum because we want to make it simple for teachers to show how Black minds, hands, and hearts have influenced every fabric of society. Here's how it works:

Vibrant literature selections draw your learners in.

Our Rooted curriculum is built on the belief that children connect best with real people and real stories. Throughout our literature selections, learners will grow as they enter into another's story. *We list the books, you'll grab them from the library.

Short lessons help you easily integrate Black studies.

Each lesson requires only 15-20 minutes per week. Weekly lessons build on one another to help you incorporate Black contributions all year long

Engaging lessons illuminate how Black folks have roots in every fabric of society.

Every lesson has a reading (literature component) and engaging activity to help learners connect the past and present.

Educator Growth Guides deepen your roots and understanding.

As teachers, we're constantly growing alongside our learners. In addition to a lesson plan, Rooted Growth Guides help teachers grow as critical thinkers and classroom facilitators with thought-provoking questions, research insights, and more.

Our approach is a bit unique:
Let Stories Speak for
Themselves

Rooted isn't a textbook synthesis of information for students, we use real stories to highlight the contributions, perspectives and experiences of Black Americans.

Connect the past to the present

Rooted integrates seamlessly into any language arts or social studies classroom. We help you connect the past to the present with vibrant stories, activities, and educator growth guides.

Incorporate Black experiences + perspectives all year long.

Shine a light on hidden heroes.

Your learners know about Dr. Martin Luther King, but do they know about Claudette Colvin? The Black community has worked as a collective to advance our well-being and society. Rooted helps your learners explore these lesser-known heroes and see a bit of themselves in each one.
